Extended Stainless Steel Brake Lines for Long Travel (gray or red only) |
$15 (gray) $15 (red) |
|
If you have a long travel kit that uses the stock spindle, add these extended lines and enjoy bigger brakes.
Note: do not purchase these extended lines if you have mid-travel, or up to a 4" lift/leveling kit on your Tacoma or 4Runner. The longer lines will get in the way of your suspension components; the standard lines will work perfectly for you. |

If you're working on a Tundra brake upgrade for your 1st gen (96-04) Tacoma, one of the things you'll need to decide is whether you want to run a soft line all the way to the caliper (as is done with stock Tacoma calipers) or if you want to swap the lines to match the Tundra - where a hard line makes the final connection to the caliper.
I wrestled with this too, and it's worth reading why it's important to do this right - that is, to convert the caliper line to a hard line - which is written up in Making It Right: Tacoma-to-Tundra Brake Upgrade.
Until now, the only option to convert to soft+hard lines was the LCE kit at $180 or so shipped (to the lower 48). That's a ton of money for some brake lines, so I'm now offering an equivalent kit for a total of $125, shipped.
This hard line kit now contains all the necessary parts including the soft lines, but does not include or require a rear brake line - saving you even more money.
The kit includes:
- Two hard lines, bent to fit between a 13WL caliper and the (included) spindle bracket. One right and one left.
- Two spindle brackets, meant to secure the connection between the hard and soft lines.
- Two brake line clips, to secure the soft line at the spindle bracket.
- Two stainless steel soft brake lines (DOT approved, and made by the same folks that make Wheelers stainless brake lines) that connect the hard lines on the frame to the hard lines in the kit.

Installed the blue break line kit on my 2002 TRD tacoma , easy to install 👍 , looking to upgrade my suspension now, how much lift can I add with the blue break lines? I was thinking of 2.5 or 3 inch lift , would that work? Also at what point would I need to upgrade the rear break lines? Thanks
turbodb –
Hey Lane, glad the install went well and that you like the lines!
A 2.5-3" lift is totally fine with the standard set of lines. They are designed to fit any lift where you continue to run the stock Lower Control Arms (or stock-size LCAs) on the truck. Only when you go to Long Travel Lower Control Arms do you need to get longer lines in the front.
For the rear - any lift over about 2" and you want to start looking at an extended line. Even with a 2" lift back there, you can start to compromise the stock line at full droop.
Hope that helps!

So glad I came across Adventure Taco's Tacoma to Tundra Brake upgrade. The details, part numbers, and their brake line kit were on point. In the mean time I was also replacing the rack and pinnon, CV Axle, and lower control arm and Adventure Taco has some other great write ups as well. The attention to detail in the write up and insights to possible challenges you might run into (bending dust shields, caliper bolts being too long, etc) were really helpful. For someone on the fence of doing this job themselves...having these instructions, you'll be just fine!

Very fast shipping and email responses, and parts installed great! Zero issues and brakes feel like they will actually stop the truck without issue now.

Dan is an expert at his craft. His blog was so impressive that I was able to fix multiple issues on my Tacoma. I am super excited for the front-end tundra brake upgrade for my Tacoma that I found on his blog. Everyone who owns a Tacoma know the front brakes are sub-par. I purchased brake lines compatible with suspension lifts from him. High quality guy and high-quality blog. Thanks again.
John Weekes –
Awesome, thanks! I learned about the kit following your tundra brake upgrade write up. I’ve followed a lot of them to make my truck what is today. Very helpful!

Awesome communication from Dan, great product and fantastic information on the website. Thanks so much!

Been prowling your website for some time looking at all the mods you've done and this one is high on my list of to do's. I've added a lot of weight to my truck and can really feel it on the brakes. Hoping the Tundra brakes make a difference. I'm also getting ready to build an overland box using an aluminum flat bed I got a hold of. I recently made a trailer using a surplus M1102 generator trailer and now I've go the itch to keep making stuff...

Hi Dan,
Thank you for the detailed TBU write ups! I'm about to do my 3rd gen 4runner. I wanted to order the Tacoma to Tundra kit and get the correct (shorter) length stainless steel lines for my 4runner in the kit. How should I go about placing the order?
turbodb –
Hey Amir - I'm happy to get 4Runner length lines into a Tacoma kit for you. To do that, just place an order for the Tacoma kit on the web site, and then shoot me an email with your order number (or just shoot me an email after you place the order and I can look up your order number) and I'll swap out the lines before shipping out the kit.
(also, I sent you an email with this, so you might check your spam folder!) 👍

Great EASY upgrade! I've installed QUALITY rotors several times due to warping. My hope is that this is the fix. Won't know for a while, or perhaps I'll just forget it was ever an issue. Braking definitely feels MUCH smoother and more controlled.
One tip... Not being a mechanic, I tried to deal with removal of the brake line clip and nut from the wheel well. SO MUCH EASIER when I figured out I could reach over fender into the engine bay to access those. It may be noted in the instructions... if so, I missed it.
I did "bed" the brakes, which not only finished the job right, but also gave me complete confidence that they're working GREAT!

I ordered extended brake lines and the Tundra-to-Tacoma brake upgrade kit from Adventure Taco. The quality of the products are superb! Dan is extremely knowledgeable and eager to help answer any questions you may have. I’ve certainly purchase from Adventure Taco again.
Salvatore Ciolino –
Hey Dan I actually just installed the tundra calipers and rotors today. All I'm missing are the stainless steel lines and bleed the system. I appreciate all the step by step instructions you have provided. Can't wait to install the lines and see the difference. The original brakes were horrible haha.
It's hard to pinpoint where exactly I found your link. I was doing a lot of research, looking at forums on tacomaworld, YouTube videos, and just Google searches. I believe your link came up in one of the forums.
I'll definitely spread the word to everyone I know who has 1st gen tacomas!

This kit is perfect. Can't recommend it enough. Did my brake upgrade and it looks like the truck came this way from factory. I don't know what kind of ghetto solution I thought I was going to come up with but it wasn't going to be as nice as this and it probably would have taken me all day.
Mark Vergara –
Kit came in fast and worked as it should! A must have if upgrading to the TBU fornthe 1st gen tacoma or 3rd gen 4runner. Thanks again!

great product. great price. adventure taco has done an immense amount of research to develop a high quality product. the tutorial as to how and why to perform this upgrade is spot on. i am 60 years old and run my own shop. i wish every aftermarket parts company would put this much diligence into providing a quality product. hell, i wish the OEM's would provide this kind of quality and service. i highly recommend
Mtn Wheeling –
Excellent Tundra brake line kit for my Tacoma. All parts fit perfectly and arrived quickly. Slightly firmer pedal feel and better performance. Thanks AdventureTaco for putting this kit together!
Phillip Holli-Arcus –
Fast shipping, super helpful and great how to articles for those in need. Thanks, Dan!
A C –
Will this work on a 3rd gen 4Runner with the tundra brake upgrade?
turbodb –
Hey Andy,
So... the Tacoma to Tundra kit will *mostly* work for the 4Runner, though you'll need slightly shorter stainless steel brake lines (link below).
That said, usually with a 4Runner, you don't need the brackets or hard lines, so for a cheaper option, you can just purchase the stainless steel lines (and some brake line clips) here.
That said, if you want to replace your hard lines and/or brackets as well, you're welcome to pick up the Tacoma kit and I can substitute the 4Runner stainless steel lines. Just place the order here, and then shoot me an email to let me know you want the 4Runner lines.
Cheers,
Dan

I installed this on a 2002 Tacoma, used 13WL Tundra brakes, worked like a charm. It was easy to install, and fit perfectly.
Caleb Congdon –
Awesome thank you!
Hector –
Will these work with a 3 inch lift on a first gen tacoma?
turbodb –
Hi Hector, this kit will work perfectly with a 3” lift. In fact, I’d say that’s the most common scenario in which it is installed. Cheers!
Cody Vandersluis –
Love the writeups. Ended up finding your brake line kit when researching the tundra brake swap. Awesome guide!
Eli Kultgen –
Some companies develop a product to only make a buck, but AdventureTaco created a solution that is simply better and cheaper than anything else on the market. The website walks you through the entire process and provides information that would have taken hours or days of research required to perform maintenance or upgrades properly and safely. The kit I ordered shipped the same day and consisted of precise, high-quality parts that aren't available anywhere else. I'll be watching for any more kits they develop in the future.
Anonymoustaco (verified owner) –
I have a question? Will it fit with a 13WG brake caliper?
turbodb –
Hi there, the kit will work fine with the 13WG calipers (as well as the 13WE, 13WL, stock 1st gen Tacoma, and stock 3rd gen 4Runner calipers).
Dave –
