I've been using the Canon RF system for four years and in that time, I've come to enjoy shooting the full-frame mirrorless Canon R6 and Canon R5 bodies. I've also enjoyed the two lenses I picked up when I first moved into the mirrorless ecosystem, a Canon RF 24-240mm F4-F6.3 IS USM lens for most day-to-day shooting, and a Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM lens for wide angle and low-light situations.
Both lenses have been fantastic, and for the most part when I'm out adventuring, have done everything I could hope.
In fact, there's only been one situation on trips where I wanted something a little different, and that's when fighter jets have been screaming by overhead - or sometimes, far below - and my 240mm lens just isn't enough to capture their majesty.
And so, I recently picked up - after much internal strife over whether I'd really get enough use from it to justify the cost - a Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM Lens!
Larger than I expected.
The thing that really put me over the top was that @mini.turbodb is now - almost constantly - out on the soccer field or sprinting around a track, and both of those activities will benefit from a bit longer glass with a slightly lower aperture. Being able to reach out to 500mm at f7 will mean sharper shots at lower ISO and better foreground separation. Or, at least, that's what I'm telling myself.
I haven't had time to use it yet, but I'll be sure to report back once I have!
