TL;DR - We got a small Jetboil because we plan to have all of our cooking be for rehydrating meals. It seems spectacular for boiling water.
Two cups of boiling water in two minutes.
We were originally planning to use an old MSR WhisperLite stove that I still have from my days as a Boy Scout, but dealing with white gas - especially given our propensity to fly back-and-forth for trips - seemed like a pain in the ass. Then, when we saw that the Jetboil Zip would do all of the following, it became a no brainer:
- boil enough water in 2 minutes for two freeze-dried meals,
- include a small "pot"
- pack down into "pot" for transport
- and was on sale for $75
Two cups of boiling water in two minutes.
Entire stove (and fuel) stores conveniently in the "pot."
Other stoves considered:
- A MSR WhisperLite stove that I already had, but after we read about the Jetboil, it seemed really inconvenient.
