TL;DR - no trouble on the last couple trips.

TL;DR - I threw away the leaky bottle and got a few used bottles to fill and use on future trips.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - The (warranty) replacement battery is working great!
Leave a CommentTL;DR - The spherical bearings are doing OK, but I think that's temporary.
Leave a CommentMarch 17, 2020 Back from the eastern Mojave, it's time for another look at how the truck performed over the course of the last 5 day's adventures. If you haven't read those - and want to - go right ahead, I'll wait. Removed from previous Rig Reviews The Swing-Out Table - I still don't have one and the truth of the matter is that I've been getting along fine without by using the tailgate. Adding a table would be a nicety, but would also add weight - even if only a small amount - so for now it's…
Leave a CommentTL;DR - My APRS stopped working, because my Mobilinkd TNC 2 died early in the trip.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - It's time to get a new 1lb propane bottle; the current one has a slow leak through the valve.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - Even with relatively cool days and nights, something was wrong with my house battery. Need to investigate.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - I think I need to replace the spherical bearings again. Already. They are squeaky and I've only put 14K miles on the new set.
Leave a CommentJanuary 4, 2020 Another year of wheeling and camping is in the books. I find myself here writing a rig review as one of 2020's first posts, for the last couple of trips that we took in 2019. By and large, the truck performed well on those trips In Search of Overlooks in Death Valley and though an unexpectedly snowy trip to the Mojave Preserve. There were - as always - a couple things worth calling out - so without further ado, let's get to it! Seemingly solved from previous Rig Reviews Front ADS Coilover Spherical Bearings Squeaking Unchanged /…
1 CommentTL;DR - Replacing the spherical bearings, misalignment spacers, and lower shock bolts is done and things are working correctly as far as I can tell.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - I've addressed the Tacoma's weight loss as much as I am going to for now.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - The latch broke, and I need a new one. CBI's customer service leaves something (major IMO) to be desired. Destaco (who makes the latch) really stepped up though!
Leave a CommentTL;DR - it's time for a new windshield.
Leave a CommentSeptember 30, 2019. It was another whirlwind of trips through August and September, with three more trips and 21 more nights now in the books: The Whipsaw Trail in BC, Canada, a trip with Pops to the California Sierra, and a nearly two-week adventure through Wyoming and Colorado. Of those, the two driving adventures both ended early due to mechanical failure of at least one vehicle on the trip, so without further ado, let's get into what's bound to be a stunning rig review! Seemingly solved from previous Rig Reviews Front ADS Reservoirs Too Close to Tires Unchanged / Still an…
7 CommentsNot technically my truck. Mine might be heavier.
TL;DR - the truck is heavy at 5800 lbs loaded, and I need to find a way to shed weight. That's now on the project list for this winter.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - I have oil leaking from the transfer case where the front drive shaft attaches.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - The skid plates are holding up, but the mounting strategy could have been better. For the 3rd time, I'm modifying it.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - it's been about a year and my spherical bearings are getting squeaky; time to replace them.
Leave a CommentTL;DR - Moving the resis to the top of the frame means there is no more rubbing and I have my turning radius back.
